Mixilo Now Calculates Your Target, Not Just Your Optimal Spend
Your Spend Level Is Half the Answer. Here's the Other Half.
Mixilo’s optimization engine calculates the daily budget allocation that maximizes net revenue or conversions for every campaign, using the actual shape of that campaign's performance curve. It depends on each campaign's specific data, and it shifts as seasonality, competition, and performance change. That's the hard problem Mixilo was built to solve.
Setting a budget caps what a campaign can spend, but it doesn't decide how much of that budget actually gets used; that depends on your target too. And the challenge isn't that people pick targets carelessly. It's that a target which was well calibrated last week can be wrong today, and checking that daily, across dozens of campaigns, isn't something a team can do by hand.
When a Target Is Off
Think of it like a thermostat. Set the target too tight and the campaign only bids on the most efficient auctions. It underspends, and budget goes unused. Set it too loose and the campaign bids too aggressively, burns through its budget early, and goes dark for the rest of the day. Both cost you money. The right target sits in between, and it moves.
If a campaign exhausts its budget by 2pm, the platform sees "spend equals budget" and reads that as a healthy day. In reality, that campaign stopped bidding for ten hours. It's the most expensive kind of underspend, and the easiest one to overlook, because on paper nothing looks wrong.
Why This Matters Now
This has always been a challenge, but Google made this harder to ignore with its August 2026 change to Target CPA and Target ROAS bidding. Before, budget acted as a cushion. A budget-limited campaign could land well below its target CPA or well above its target ROAS, and the target itself barely mattered. As of August 17, that cushion is gone. Budget-limited campaigns on these bid strategies now converge directly toward whatever target you set, for better or worse. A poorly calibrated target used to be masked by the budget cap. Now it shows up directly in your results.
This makes the target you set more consequential than it used to be, whether you're adjusting an existing campaign or setting one up for the first time.
What's New in Mixilo: Optimal Target ROAS or Target CPA
Mixilo already tells you the optimal daily spend for a campaign. Now it also keeps your target calibrated to hit that spend, automatically, every day.
Mixilo makes two adjustments to the tROAS/tCPA targets. First, it compares yesterday's actual spend to yesterday's target spend, classifies the result as overspend, underspend, or well-calibrated, and applies a proportional adjustment based on the size of that deviation. Second, it applies a further adjustment based on how today's target spend compares to yesterday's target spend — capturing whether the recommended spend trajectory is rising or falling. Both adjustments are applied within a daily safety cap, so no single day's changes push the lever too far.
A few guardrails keep it from overcorrecting. Target changes only happen on a configurable cadence, every N days, giving the platforms time to react to each tROAS adjustment before it's modified again, rather than changing it too frequently. And when a campaign exhausts its budget mid-day, Mixilo projects what it would have spent over a full 24 hours at that pace and corrects based on the projection, rather than waiting for the same problem to repeat itself.
What Else We've Been Shipping
This is one piece of a bigger year for Mixilo. Our team has been rolling out a steady stream of improvements alongside it. Read about our latest update: Events Calendar with a custom model for special dates like Black Friday. If it's been a while since you looked at the platform, there's more here than there used to be.
If matching your target to your campaign's optimal spend is something you've been solving campaign by campaign, we'd love to show you what Mixilo recommends. Already a client? Get in touch with your account manager to see it in action.
