The Challenge
Clip’s People team previously relied on a manual, error-prone process for HR reporting—exporting data from BambooHR and other tools, downloading CSVs, merging them with historical records in Google Sheets, calculating KPIs with custom formulas, and publishing dashboards in Looker Studio. As headcount and data volumes increased, the process began to fail: version control issues, inconsistent metrics, sluggish reporting cycles, and dashboards that no longer reflected real-time realities. These problems were compounded by Google Sheets’ limitations—row and cell caps, lack of data validatioFn—and the growing risk of PII being stored insecurely on individual desktops. With trust in the data eroding, Clip recognized the urgent need for a centralized, secure data foundation and automated workflows—ultimately partnering with Muttdata to make it happen.
The Solution
Muttdata designed and implemented a secure, modular Data Lake on Databricks to fully automate Clip’s People Analytics. The platform ingests data from BambooHR, consolidates historical records into structured, dashboard-ready tables, and performs daily refreshes—eliminating the need for manual exports, spreadsheet stitching, and ad hoc KPI calculations.
To meet Clip’s enterprise standards, the solution includes role-based access controls, encryption, and activity monitoring—restoring trust in the handling of sensitive HR data. The resulting data foundation now serves as a single source of truth for Finance, People, and Operations teams. It also includes a scalable roadmap to integrate additional systems (such as Eloomi) and extend automation into payroll and other critical workflows.
